Skype Setup.

Skype is a program for your computer to allow you to have voice communications across the internet, without using a phone or paying for a phone call. If we were only concerned about local phone calls then this would be no big deal, but with Skype we are talking with any voice call around the world.

In its simplest form Skype allows you to talk to someone through your computer, The person you are talking to has to have a computer and internet access.  They also have to have a microphone and headphones or speakers connected to their computer. Finally the person you are talking to with Skype has to be running the Skype program at the same time.

There is a more advanced version of this (which costs money) that allows you to call someone else on their telephone, the cost is something like $0.02 per minute, instead of $0.13 or more for long distance carrier calls.

On the internet go to the Skype website, then download and install the software.  When it is first started it asks for some details like a user name, which you get to make up, and then the usual passwords. Finally supply your email address and the system sets you up and logs you in. (Sometimes the user-name you pick has been chosen by someone else already, so just pick a different name, or add some letters or numbers to make it different, remember to write it down somewhere so you don't forget).

Once you are logged on you can add contacts to your contact list. there is a button on the top of the Skype window for this. Type in the name of the person, their skype name or their email address and skype will search for them.  If their name appears on the found list, you can double click on it and add it to your contact list.

Skype is located at www.Skype.com and both the program and computer to computer connection is free.
